Chi Ossé is an official New York City Council Member representing the 36th District, Bedford-Stuyvesant and North Crown Heights. In 2021, Ossé made history when he was first elected as New York’s youngest councilman and the only member hailing from Gen Z. Since being in office, he’s been heavily invested in solving New York’s housing crisis, budget justice, and implementing public safety solutions. One of Ossé’s most recent initiatives is The FARE Act, which ultimately eliminates forced broker fees for renters that have not personally sought out a broker to find them an apartment. Last month, The FARE Act was officially passed by the City Council. Ossé has also made waves by utilizing social media as a tool to inform, eloquently break down local issues and reach new audiences. His approach online has attracted more younger people to be involved in government and politics by making it more transparent and relatable. This year, Cosmopolitan recognized Ossé with a Club Cosmo Award for being an impactful creator online and beyond. — G.E.
