One look at Clifford Prince King’s images makes one feel as if they’re spying on an intimate moment between paramours. His photography truly captures the tenderness shared between Black queer men, something he didn’t see represented in images growing up in Arizona. This longing started King on his journey towards capturing deeply personal imagery of men who love men. But the self-taught artist does work with pretty well-known names as well. King photographed the artwork for R&B sensation Tems’ single “Me & U,” country star Shaboozey for The Cut, Industry actress Myha’la for Cero Magazine, and The Bear actor Lionel Boyce for Fantastic Man. Additionally, King’s images and films have been curated by the Public Art Fund, featured in collections by Black queer-owned brand K.NGSLEY, and highlighted in exhibits in Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, and most recently, Zurich, Switzerland. — J.S.M.
