DaShawn Usher

While DaShawn Usher isn’t mobilizing our society to embrace BIPOC LGBTQ+ communities by day, he’s building communities for Black queer and trans folks by night. The Atlanta based advocate and researcher splits his time between his duties as the Senior Director for Communities of Color and Media at GLAAD, where Usher leads media advocacy efforts to promote visibility and acceptance of BIPOC queer and trans communities, and as the founder of Mobilizing Our Brothers Initiative (MOBI), where he curates and develops events, performances, panels for Black LGBTQ+ folk. If all of that isn't enough, Usher launched the Recording Academy’s LGBTQ+ initiative Academy Proud, produced both the inaugural Black Queer Creative Summit and the American Black Film Festival’s Queer Lens Brunch. Usher’s work garnered him several accolades, including the Vision Community Foundation’s Global Media Mogul and Influencer Award and Grand Marshalling New York City’s Pride March. The cherry on top, his engagement to his fiancé, performing artist and creative director Victor Jackson. He did that! — J.S.M.
