John Gibson

Talk about loving your Black job. John Gibson pulls double duty within the Motion Picture Association as VP of External and Multicultural Affairs and the lead of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion program (which he founded in 2012—three years before #OscarsSoWhite). The Motion Picture Association is the leading advocate of the film, television, and streaming industry around the world representing Disney, Netflix, Paramount, Amazon MGM Studios, Sony Pictures, Universal, and Warner Brothers Discovery. Diverse representation propels his dedication to the film industry. To date, under Gibson’s leadership, the MPA’s partnered with over 60 organizations, such as the American Black Film Festival, Atlanta Film Society, New York Latino Film Festival, Native American Media Alliance, and Women in Animation, to name a few. The programs and initiatives sparked from these strategic partnerships aim to be transformative as diversity increases in front of and behind the camera. This is what representation looks like in Hollywood. — J.S.M.
