Each time you hear serpentwithfeet rhymes, consider yourself one step closer to divinity. The sensual and the spiritual combine when the Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter and producer begins waxing poetic. With a classical and gospel music upbringing, serpentwithfeet has been fusing these influences with haunting neo-soul sounds that contemplate loneliness, longing and lust since his 2016 debut EP Blisters. His latest album GRIP shifted serpentwithfeet’s focus from the heart and mind onto the body, turning epicurean fantasies into lustful realities. A string of successes blossomed from serpentwithfeet’s latest project, including collaborating with artists NAO, Alex Isley, Sampha and Björk. He’s capping off the year off with a slew of shows, including performing as the opening act for André 3000’s New Blue Sun LIVE in Concert and he even performed at the 2024 Native Son Awards. — J.S.M.
