Darnell Lamont Walker has combined his passions for writing, film, and health advocacy to empower his community and encourage them to prioritize how they care for themselves physically and emotionally. Walker’s writing credits include television shows like Blue’s Clues & You and Karma’s World. While on the stage, the playwright has lended his talents to his short play Bumpy Johnson: A Short Play About the Legendary Crime Boss with American Theatre. Walker is also a death doula, supporting people throughout the emotional, spiritual, and logistical parts of dying. He turned his death doula experiences into his upcoming first book, Never Can Say Goodbye: The Life of a Death Doula and the Art of a Peaceful End, published by HarperOne. Additionally, that same healing work is what’s bringing him to SXSW next year to sit on the panel “How Death Became the New Wellness Frontier.”
