As Atlanta’s new Director of LGBTQ+ Affairs, Dewayne Queen’s mayor-appointed position focuses on fostering the relationship between Atlanta and the LGBTQ+ residents who call The A home. Dewayne’s efforts include connecting residents with resources and programming related to affordable housing, health equity, and economic mobility initiatives. But Queen isn’t new to this line of advocacy work. For years, while working at Delta Airlines, Queen served as the President of Delta’s LGBTQ+ business resource group, EQUAL. Under his leadership, the group helped queer and trans employees navigate workplace disparities and cultivate an inclusive culture. Whether through his board leadership with Atlanta Black Pride and Atlanta Pride, celebrating ATL’s trans community through creating the TransLife Awards, or connecting the LGBTQ+ community with resources through spearheading the Winters Lane Foundation, Queen’s impact and dedication to his queer family is palpable and reverberates throughout Atlanta’s queer community.
