Dr. Travis Gayles

Dr. Travis Gayles is educating and empowering the LGBTQ+ community through his Howard Brown Health Center and its mission to provide inclusive care. With both a PhD and an MD from the University of Illinois, Dr. Gayles spent his time training at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine — where his primary care efforts and research focused on adolescent and HIV medicine. His career in public health then led him to take on the roles of Chief Medical Officer in the District of Columbia Department of Health’s HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, STD, and TB Administration, Health Officer for Montgomery County, Maryland, and Chief Health Officer at Hazel Health. Through each of his roles, Gayles has expanded comprehensive healthcare, addressed health disparities, and expanded access to telehealth for youth. And as the CEO of Howard Brown Health, Dr. Gayles is applying years of public health leadership towards creating a future where LGBTQ+ people have the healthcare resources and policies needed to thrive.
