George M. Johnson

Nothing can stand in the way of George M. Johnson’s success. The lauded author, journalist, and activist rose to fame through their 2020 memoir-manifesto All Boys Aren’t Blue. The New Jersey native’s collection of personal essays became fodder for right-wing conservatives in their attempts to censor LGBTQ+ authorship. According to the Associated Press, Johnson had the most challenged book of 2024. That, however, didn’t stop the New York Times bestselling author from writing — or from advocating against the censorship. They have continued to excel since the release of their debut memoir, gaining an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Daytime Special, being recognized as a Time100 Next Honoree in 2022, and releasing two more books, We Are Not Broken in 2021, a follow up memoir, and Flamboyants: The Queer Harlem Renaissance I Wish I'd Known in 2024, an inside look at Black LGBTQ+ Harlem Renaissance icons. Johnson has also become a sought after speaker and commentator, with them continually advocating for the rights of the Black community, LGBTQ+ community, and people living with HIV. Now, the Native Son Honoree has ventured into queer rom-com territory with their new holiday-themed book, There’s Always Next Year, co-authored by Leah Johnson. Consider everything that Johnson writes on our wishlist.
