Justen LeRoy

Justen LeRoy seamlessly intertwines music, film, visual art, and performance to explore the intersections of sound, spirituality, and geology. The Los Angeles native’s multidisciplinary artistry has been featured in numerous galleries across The City of Angels. His Lay Me Down in Praise film installation at the California African American Museum examined the climate crisis through sound and film. While his contemporary opera, X’ene’s Witness, was shown at the Los Angeles Nomadic Division and highlighted LeRoy’s Black environmentalist sonic vision to prompt dialogue around climate change. The accomplished artist also had work featured in the Dak’Art 2024 Biennale in Senegal and one of his pieces is now part of the Baltimore Museum of Art’s permanent collection. LeRoy balances his artistic endeavors with his role as the first Director of Public Programs and Community Outreach at the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles (MOCA). He is also executive director of SOUNDSYSTEM, a partnership with Parkwood’s Corey Stokes, who serves as the platform’s artistic director. Through SOUNDSYSTEM, LeRoy will bring exhibitions and public programming through a multidisciplinary platform that will change how attendees engage with sounds.
