As a young, Black, queer journalist Gerren Keith Gaynor has said he understands the power of diversity and visibility in newsrooms. His voice and written word serves him well as Managing Editor of Politics and Washington Correspondent for The Grio. But it’s his passion for equality and respect for Black-owned media that helped him secure a designated seat in the White House press briefing room. The Morehouse and Columbia University grad sees his work as an opportunity to not only tell stories about his communities but serve as a representative of Black and LGBTQ+ communities in the political space. With that tenacity, fellow Native Sons can always count on Gaynor being in the room where it happens and asking the tough questions on behalf of Black and queer Americans. —K.M.
