PAUL MPAGI SEPUYA
With his highly constructed studio portraiture, Paul Mpagi Sepuya blends a conceptual approach to photography with a warm examination of his own queer community. Capturing the movements of the human body, and the many ways it can form, is truly magnificent. Sepuya’s talent to mold those physical gestures with the experiences of Black queer life, expresses a real concept of how our bodies are no different than the rest of world. It’s a point of equality and tenderness that showcases our belonging, our power, and our existence. His work can be seen in multiple galleries across the nation serving as a beacon for Black queer art. —E.F.
