Designers look to many different sources of inspiration when creating their collections, work with casting teams to find people who embody the vision they have for their brand. Every so often, a designer finds a special someone who inspires them to create designs around their energy and personality. Fashion designer B. Michael was blessed to find a muse in the iconic Cicely Tyson. The duo began working together in 2005 and sparked an inseparable connection. Michael curated an entire aesthetic of high-end style for Tyson for the next 15 years. Michael’s designs have been beloved and worn by several celebrities—Vanessa Williams, Phylicia Rashad, and Angela Bassett—and his ready-to-wear collection is sold at Macy’s. This month, Michael will release his memoir, MUSE, which explores his beloved relationship with Tyson.—G.E.
