JUDGE JAMAR K. WALKER

Honorable Jamar K. Walker made history as the first openly gay Federal Judge appointed in the commonwealth of Virginia. In March 2023, Walker was sworn in by the Senate after being nominated by President Joe Biden. Walker’s appointment to the bench makes him the second openly out gay Black judge in the country — Judge Darrin P. Gayles became the first in the Southern District of Florida in 2014. Before taking his seat for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Walker worked as a Federal Prosecutor in Alexandria where he focused on white-collar crime. A longtime Virginia resident, he graduated from the University of Virginia and UVA’s law school. —K.M.
