Don’t ever put Durand Bernarr into a musical box. Just listen to him showing off his stellar vocals, funky grooves, and infectious charisma, it’s easy to see why there’s over 2 million views for his 2023 NPR Tiny Desk concert. Since then the singer and songwriter and self–proclaimed, “everybody favorite cousin on they daddy’s side,” kept us on our toes (and skates) with his Rollin’ with the Homies II: The Jam Continues skate and music experience tour. From Brooklyn to Amsterdam, Bernarr performed at the ESSENCE Festival and at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, and was featured on the covers of Loverboy, BLEU and RSL magazines. This year the Cleveland, Ohio native entered a new era of funk, soul, and R&B on his latest EP En Route. And the critics are listening. Bernarr received his first Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album for his EP En Route. With Bernarr is in the driver’s seat, and we’re happy to be along for the ride with the music blasting. — J.S.M.
