Deconstructing sociopolitical structures and histories fuels the work of multidisciplinary artist Shikeith. With a BFA in photography from University of Pennsylvania and MFA from sculpture from the Yale School of Art, the Philadelphia native does not shy away from channeling his spiritual traditions across the African diaspora into his work. Whether Shikeith is creating bronze sculptures (“Ceremonies”) that encapsulate the beauty of Black men for the Untitled Art Fair in Miami or developing stirring installations (“Still Waters Run Deep”) at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, his work challenges norms that mold our perception into reality. While his more avant-garde creations have become a calling card, Shikeith’s signature photography style has captured entertainers such as rapper Ice Spice, singer-songwriter and dancer Tyla, and actress and comedian Meg Stalter for The New York Time’s T Magazine. — J.S.M.
