Asad Syrkett’s love for architecture and design has been a long-term pursuit. He developed a passion for books and architecture at a young age, enjoying spending time in the Hamilton Grange library while growing up within New York City and New Jersey. Once he made his way to Columbia University in the late 2000s, Syrkett’s internship at Architectural Record became the jumpstart for his editorial career. Syrkett has since been Associate Editor at Architectural Digest, Deputy Editor at Curbed, oversaw business development and operations for Hem Design Studio, and served as Editor-in-Chief at Elle Decor. Syrkett has also been a guest lecturer at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and New York City’s School of the Visual Arts. Honored in 2017 as part of FOLIO’s 30 Under 30 for his efforts in highlighting diverse voices within the design industry — which included the reimagining of Nancy Lancaster's “Yellow Room” by Detroit creative Rachelle Bakeron on the cover of Elle Decor and diversifying Elle Decor’s A-List honorees. And Syrkett’s next big move was revealed in October of this year, when it was announced he would relocate to Milan to take on the helm of Architectural Digest Italy as the Head of Editorial Content. Ciao bello!
