Iman Jordan

At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Iman Jordan snagged the Harry Belafonte Best Song for Social Change Award for his song “Deliver,” reminding us how music can be both resistance and a rallying call. While he took on the stage name Mateo when first breaking into the music industry, after coming out in 2016, Iman Jordan relinquished his stage name and stopped changing his music to fit heteronormative ears. Along the way, the singer, songwriter, and producer has steadily refined his craft. He’s created songs for artists like Jazmine Sullivan, Rihanna, and Alicia Keys, while also working on his own socially conscious music with songs like “War” and “Freedom Song.” But his music isn’t where his activism ends. Jordan is also the founder of the ArtWell Coalition, a nonprofit dedicated to helping artists create from a “place of wellness while using their gifts to fuel cultural healing and social change.” In addition to his musical talents, Jordan is the art director for Winston Studios, an LA-based creative agency founded by his designer partner Carlos Anthony Lopez. When we talk about “For The Culture,” Jordan’s creative activism speaks volumes.
