Jonathan Carver Moore

When you hear the name Jonathan Carver Moore, you can imagine an art curator, but also his eponymous art gallery in San Francisco with his name on the glass. Launched in 2023, Moore’s gallery made history as the only Black gay-owned gallery in the city. Based in the first legally recognized transgender district in the world, Jonathan Carver Moore focuses on uplifting Black, Brown, women, and LGBTQ+ artists, both emerging and established. Through amplifying their voices, Moore and his gallery serve as a conduit for accessible and community-based art for people from all walks of life. Moore recently demonstrated his gallery’s mission of accessibility with its Pride Month exhibition, To Be Seen. The exhibit curated the works of several Black queer artists like Eric Hart Jr. and Khari Johnson to examine Black queer identity, visibility, and belonging through paintings, photography, and mixed media works. Paired with his advisory positions on several nonprofit boards in California, Moore is reimagining the Bay Area arts community and giving Black queer artists a place to call home.
