To say that Jordan E. Cooper is a multi-hyphenate creative is an understatement. The Texas-born playwright, screenwriter, actor, and producer transitioned from creating and performing plays in his church to becoming the youngest Black playwright on Broadway with his Tony Award-nominated show Ain’t No Mo’ — which first debuted in 2022. Cooper went on to create, produce, and showrun the Ms. Pat Show in 2021. After crafting hits for the stage and the screen, the playwriting phenom created another breakout show, Oh Happy Day!, which debuted in 2024 to rave reviews for its reimagining of Noah’s Ark. The hit play was re-staged this year for an off-Broadway run at The Public Theater. And we can’t forget his acting roles either – with him starring in Freakier Friday alongside Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, as well as the boxing thriller Uppercut this year, proving that his acting chops are just as strong as his pen.
