Joshua Obawole Allen merges art and history to create visual revelations that inspire us to reenvision the world as a more equitable and joyous place. The award-winning multidisciplinary artist, author, and activist was featured in exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporic Arts in New York City, Armory Week, and the Center for Black Visual Culture at New York University. Additionally, they were included in the iconic For Freedoms: Where Do We Go From Here, a collection of billboards using art as the catalyst to jumpstart conversations on civic issues. This year, they also graced the cover of Dazed magazine’s spring cover, became the fifth person to take on the Bayard Rustin Residency with Penington Friends House, performed their new performance art piece, “Waves,” at Leslie-Lohman Museum, and was honored with a grant from the Brooklyn Arts Council for their visual arts work.
