Juel D. Lane

As the director of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts Choreographic Institute, Juel D. Lane supports established dancers as they create works that innovate and inspire. But an accomplished choreographer like the Atlanta native isn't going to stay in just one lane. In 2025 alone, Lane brought his talents to Bennington College’s BFA Dance Lab as a visiting faculty member, choreographed the tribute to Ernie Barnes, Incense Burning on a Saturday Morning: The Maestro, for BODYTRAFFIC Dance Company in LA, as well as choreographed Tarell Alvin McCraney’s The Brother Size in New York City. Lauded for his bold creativity and storytelling through motion, Lane’s talents shift  from the stage to the screen, with him performing in NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert in 2018, Amazon Prime’s Harlem in 2021, and directing and choreographing Roc Nation artist Dixson’s music video “Only-1” in 2022. Lane’s feature in Shoccara “Shocphoto” Marcus’ 2025 Midtown Atlanta Outdoor Gallery marks his turn from dancer to center stage subject. And whether he’s performing a new piece or training the next generation of dancers, Lane can’t help but breathe life into the art of dance.
