Robert Vail is an award-winning choreographer and movement director. In 2025, Vail choreographed Saturday Night Live’s 50th Anniversary Special, worked on Nike campaigns with gymnastics titans Skye Blakely and Jordan Chiles, and his commercial work earned him a World Choreography Award. As a choreographer, Robert Vail demonstrates how dance influences so many parts of our lives. The Oakland-born performer started dancing at 5 years old — with his first hip-hop dance class progressing to dance training five days a week and his eventual acceptance into NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Now, as a New York City-based creative, Vail has built a decade of dance experience, working with dance companies and artists like Nederlands Dance Theater, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Aszure Barton, and Seán Curran. Vail has worked with brands like Hermès, Gap, and Estée Lauder, as well as entertainment’s brightest stars, like Megan Thee Stallion, Childish Gambino, and Dua Lipa. Vail appeared in showstopping performances at the Tony Awards and Saturday Night Live. And as he has transitioned into acting, he’s already snagged dancing roles in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Dicks: The Musical. With each new gig, Vail is reimagining the world of dance with his unique creative touch.
