Malcolm Kenyatta + Dr. Matt Kenyatta

Representative Malcolm Kenyatta and Dr. Matt Kenyatta are changing the face of politics, education, and art. Rep. Kenyatta fights the rights of all Pennsylvanians, whether through organizing a 105-mile walking protest to call out transit cuts or pushing legislation to protect academic institutions from right-wing control. He was elected as the Vice Chair for the Democratic National Committee in February 2025, managing the affairs of the DNC. While Dr. Kenyatta, an author, activist, and advocate known as Dr. Matt, educates students at the University of Pennsylvania on how Black innovation, commerce, and culture instill joy and genius in urban environments. Additionally, Matthew is the Director and Curator of Exhibitions and Public Programming at the Temple Contemporary Gallery at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture, and curated his first show, Pyramid Club: 1937-2035, which paid homage to the famous Black social club of the same name. This year, Rep. Kenyatta was also honored as part of Queerty’s Pride 50, while Dr. Matt was listed as one of the 100 Black LGBTQ+/SGL Emerging Leaders to Watch” by the National Black Justice Coalition and won the Social Justice in Arts and Culture Award from the City of Philadelphia’s Commission on Human Relations. But we already know Black Queer Excellence is all in a day’s work for this prolific couple.
