ANDRÉ DE SHIELDS
At 76-years-young, Broadway legend André De Shields has been entertaining audiences nearly most of his life. The Tony award-winning actor, singer and dancer brought the house down in his universally praised role as Herman, Messenger to the Gods in Hadestown. Along with the Tony, De Shields also received the triple crown of theater, winning the Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk and Grammy Award for his portrayal. The multi-talented entertainer is currently on Broadway in the critically acclaimed Death of a Salesman. De Shields, also a long-term HIV survivor graced the cover of POZ magazine where he told his story of being diagnosed early in the AIDS crisis and his road to self-discovery by never letting the diagnosis get him down. When the artist isn’t on Broadway, he can be seen in season three of the Apple TV+ show Helpsters and on Netflix’s UnCoupled. —K.M.
