“It’s not every day that a student lands a multi-book deal before graduating,” said Keith F. Miller to his college newspaper after signing with HarperCollins Children’s Books. His young-adult novel, Pritty, tells the story of Jay, a Black queer boy growing up in the early 2000s in Savannah; plus there’s an animated short film of the same name in the works. When he isn’t writing, Miller devotes his time supporting boys and young men of color healing from trauma and spearheads variety of youth arts, leadership, social justice, and community engagement initiatives. —K.M.
