Deondray Gossfield and Quincy LeNear Gossfield continue to move the needle on Black LGBTQ+ stories in media. The Gossfields were the brains behind the GLAAD-Award winning TV series The DL Chronicles and the follow-up series, The DL Chronicles Returns. The two also created the Emmy-nominated series The Chadwick Journals. All three shows focused on Black queer men, which was no easy thing to do in the 2010s. Fast forward to now, and the Gossfields are still making waves in media. They got married on-stage in 2014 during Macklemore’s “Same Love” performance at the 56th Grammy Awards. They appeared on OWN’s Black Love series in 2020, making them the first gay couple to do so. And they produced and developed several TV shows and films along the way, including Flames, Smoke, Lilies and Jade, Kocktails with Khloé and BET’s Sunday Best. This year, the Gossfields were some of the entertainment industry figures featured in Issa Rae’s HBO documentary Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television and they will cap off the eighth and final season of Showtime’s The Chi as Co-Executive Producers, after previously serving as directors on the series.
