Olivier Rousteing is synonymous with the iconic Balmain brand. After becoming the youngest creative director of the brand in 2011, the French designer ushered the fashion house into a digital-focused era. Paired with his social media savvyness, Rousteing and his “Balmain Army,” or rather his cadre of high-profile influencers, including Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Kim Kardashian, drove intense intrigue in the brand through various types of style content featuring the brand. In 2019, Balmain shifted further into e-commerce with a new app and a digital flagship store. With Rousteing’s new social media strategy in play, Balmain reached 1 million followers on Instagram. Rousteing was also credited with elevating Balmain’s place in haute couture. He launched a capsule collection of atelier pieces in 2018 and 2019 in Paris and created three couture pieces for Beyonce’s performance at Coachella in 2018. This year, Rousteing departed the iconic brand, leaving behind a lasting legacy that resonates throughout the fashion world.
